Battle Mechanics
Battle System Overview
Since animals are immortal in this game, the only way to best an animals in combat is to drain its resolve points (RP). After an animals RP has been drained, humans have the ability to bind the animal if certain criteria are met (unless already bound to another player).
Alternatively, the player can be the only one capable of death or reduction of RP. If death is an option, it would be interesting to explore what would happen in PvP and PvE scenarios. Perhaps in PvP combat, the winning player could make the choice to actually kill the trainer, but have certain consequences for making that choice vs just drawing the resolve points and tapping out of battle.
Something to be played with here is the good/evil metric from good and bad choices as introduced in Fable.
Battle System Mechanics
The battle system will comprise of controlling 1 character in live action combat while the other 3 fight in a timed turn based combat style similar to many RPGs. As such, each player will have the challenge of multi-tasking to achieve the best results. They will need to manage their live combat while ensuring they are placing timely commands to the other 3 characters.
The twist on this is your personal avatar does not have to be the live action combatant. Players will be able to choose if they want to control 1 of their Whimzu in live action or their own personal avatar in what will be called selecting your Battle Leader. This will provide countless different strategies for trying to get the edge in combat.
