Completing a Choosing and Morality in Whimzu
What is a Choosing?
In Whimzu, a Choosing is akin to catching a Pokemon, but with a much more meaningful twist. A Choosing is the bonding ritual that players must complete in order to earn the trust of a wild Whimzu and add it to their Zu. The overall premise is that players cant’t just catch the wild Whimzu roaming around by battling and capturing it. Instead the player must work to figure out how to earn the trust of the Whimzu based on the Whimzu’s assigned disposition/personality trait (see Character Dispositions). This may still include battling the wild Whimzu, but can and likely will involve other aspects such as pacifism, sacrifice, betrayal, love, etc…
How Light and Darkness Affects Choosings
All of us loved the concept that Fable introduced regarding good vs evil choices causing how you were viewed in the game. We believe we have an opportunity to run with a different flavor of that in Whimzu. As such, every decision a player makes will affect how Light or Dark a player is which will result in Whimzu being more attracted to players based on their assigned personality trait/disposition. The more in tune a players Light or Darkness is with the assigned personality trait of the Whimzu, the greater chance that the Whimzu will choose you.
For instance a Murderous Monkey might be assigned as one of the darkest Whimzu in the game. If a player has made a bunch of Dark choices throughout their adventure and they come across a Murderous Monkey, they would be more likely to have the animal choose them during their bonding ritual known as the Choosing. The same would be true of a player who has dwelled in the Light and comes across a Valiant Vulture. Players ultimately will still have a few special ways to have Whimzu choose them regardless of their Light or Darkness, but those options will be few and finite.
Final Thoughts on Choosings
The end result of the Choosing will ensure that there are extra dimensions to growing your collection and increase difficulty. If everyone could add every Whimzu to their collection with relative ease, or simply just play long enough (grind), we believe that replayability of the game will be negatively impacted. Yes… this will mean players come across some exceptionally rare Whimzu and fail to complete a Choosing! Yes... we're aware this will cause added frustration, but we assure you that we will make this feature intuitive, fun, and addicting whether you accomplish your Choosing or not.
